Friends of Odd Fellows
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit (EIN xxxxxxx) located on Orcas Island, Washington, and incorporated in the State of Washington (UBI xxxxxxx). Our mission is to support, enhance and expand the community service and cultural activities of Orcas Island Odd Fellows, Mt. Constitution Lodge #88. We do not get involved with the fraternal activities or functions of the Odd Fellows.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support, enhance and expand:
- the community service and cultural activities of The Odd Fellows Hall, Orcas Island Odd Fellows, Mt. Constitution Lodge #88
- the ability of the Hall Manager to act and react quickly, efficiently and independently, and to take entrepreneurial risks, to develop and realize new services, programs and events, via a Hall Manager discretionary fund and any other means necessary or possible
- specific existing programs that provide aid to the island community and visitors in time of need or emergency, including supplying firewood free of charge to needy individuals and families, and the firewood raffle which provides scholarships for Orcas Island high school seniors
- open-to-the-public community events and celebrations at the Hall such as the community Thanksgiving dinner, classes, musical performances, movies, speakers, feasts, festivals, fairs and dances such as the Halloween dance
- other open-to-the-public community events and celebrations, including the various cultural programs that take place on Orcas throughout the year
- events in support of our indigenous neighbors, such as totem pole and canoe journeys and Red Cedar circles
- the potential of the Odd Fellows organization and the Odd Fellows Hall to serve the community in the event of an emergency or disaster such as wildfire, earthquake, tsunami, storm, flooding, landslide or volcanic eruption
- the ability of the organization and the Hall to function in the event that electricity, phone and internet are unavailable or unreliable
- planning, design, purchase and installation of emergency communication equipment, in case normal channels such as phone and internet are unavailable or unreliable
- installing rooftop solar to increase reliability, reduce electric bills and support OPALCO in its goal of producing more local, renewable energy to reduce dependence on mainland power sources, enhance energy resilience against mainland blackouts, and stabilize energy costs for members
